using it in a fight is another story. So, is this a good theory for those who believe Gohan was SSJ1 against Dabura, even though he

I think you missed the point of the OP. What that meant in that fanfic was probably that, against Kibito, Gohan wasn't anxious
to transform into SSJ2.
