If Goku can play the stalling game with Vegeta who's only somewhat stronger than him, SSJ Trunks can kill Piccolo and double-team on his father with Galu.

Goku would probably give a pretty hard fight to Vegeta, due to how small the gap is. Meanwhile, Trunks would dispose of Piccolo after a somewhat difficult fight (don't think it'd be a walk on the park either) and help Goku defeat Vegeta, given the proximity in power of the three SSJs. Even if Vegeta tries to dispose of Trunks first, Goku could most likely get rid of Piccolo quicker and help the future boy against Veggie. I'm seeing Goku and Trunks most likely winning this, but it'd be an interesting fight to see.

I'd say so. 88-90 is the perfect range imo, due to Trunks' amazement at his papa's strength and capability to fight the androids evenly, how Vegeta said he was the one who stood the best chance in that battlefield and Kami-sama noting Vegeta is even stronger than Trunks, implying there's still a noticeable difference, even though the three SSJs are in the same range of power.

See, I don't like having Piccolo that close to Trunks. He's getting into rivaling range when he's reaching 85% or so, and that just feels dirty to me. He should be a definitive step below the Saiyans.

Do you see 85% as rivaling range? That's more or less the gap between 24k Vegeta and monster Zarbon imo, which is still quite a gap imo. Rivaling range starts at 88~90% according to my views on the percentile gaps.

That said, I agree that Goku and Trunks would win. Goku could hang with Vegeta long enough for Trunks to beat Piccolo and then team up against Vegeta.

Trunks thought that Piccolo being taken down so easily was a big deal IIRC, so Piccolo is definitely close to him. Due to the fact that Piccolo is much more skilled and experienced than Trunks, he can most likely hold his own long enough for Vegeta to finish off Goku. After that, Trunks gets taken down within seconds due to Piccolo and Vegeta teaming up on him.

Piccolo's stronger than Frieza but it still isn't enough to matter to Trunks (who I think trained while the time machine was recharging) and Trunks isn't enough to matter to Goku and Vegeta, so it ends up being between them. Vegeta's stronger than Goku, Piccolo said it himself, so Vegeta wins after a good fight.

I usually think rivaling range ends at 88%, but I'm comfortable with 85%. Anything more than that is borderline ridiculous for rivaling.

Tenshinhan stated Goku wasn't be too far above Trunks, so he should be powerful enough to "matter" to them.
