The gap between Vegeta vs Dodoria and Zarbon is actually quite miniscule since the duo was only mildly skeptical by his initial 22k reading and only said he was stronger than them after the 24k reading. Though the actual fights do portray quite a gap.

Perhaps that's an interesting angle to take. Goku is using a massive sword though too.
