I don't really get Haki. Whitebeard barely even seemed to have it.

I think it's because he was old as fuck and sick, seriously the dude was barely alive. Being stabbed in the chest didn't help.

Rayleigh was a year older and had no trouble using Haki on Kizaru. Old WB >> Old Rayleigh. Yet his Haki imbued staff did no damage to Kizaru.

Is Rayleigh sick though? And did he get stabbed through the chest with a giant sword prior to fighting?
And if I recall Rayleigh didn't damage Kizaru either

Yeah, he got Chlamydia from one of the bitches he fucked.

WB himself stated that getting stabbed did jackshit to him there. Also not sure why it would make him unable to use Haki when he used it later to hit Akainu.
