I thought so too but Goku said "it's the only way to defeat Buu" in response to Vegeta refusing to merge with Goku. That sort of leans in on the idea that Goku is saying that "we have to fuse to beat Vegeta" in response to Vegeta claiming "I'd never merge with you" rather than "we have to use potaras" because Vegeta doesn't mention potaras specifically.

Buu is not going to give them time to use Metamoran Fusion. It's the same reason why Gokan (Metamoran) cannot defeat Buu, despite having the power. Elder Kaioshin explained this to Goku right before he left.

From what I remember, Janemba didn't show signs of effort and was toying around with Goku, Vegeta and Paikuhan, unlike Gogeta in which he was clearly fighting seriously. Isn't this true?

Also, Gogeta beating Janemba with physical attacks seems similiar to how Gohan attacked Evil Boo.

Even then, I can't imagine Gohan tanking Super Buu the way Gogeta did it to Janemba (regardless or who is superior in between the two).

Janemba struggled with SSJ3 Goku and took a direct hit to the head that paralyzed him for a second. It was only through his special abilities such as creating portals to redirect attacks and creating a powerful sword that could be imbued with energy that he took the upper hand. Vegeta was only in SSJ2 (possibly SSJ) and still managed to hit Janemba head on with a Ki blast despite Janemba teleporting away and was merely reverted to base at the end of their fight. Vegeta had a harder time against Hildegarn and straight up passed out for the remainder of the movie after creating a barrier against Hildegarn's flame breath.

Even then, I can't imagine Gohan tanking Super Buu the way Gogeta did it to Janemba (regardless or who is superior in between the two).

Super Boo >>> Janemba. Considering that M12 was produced in 1995, there is nothing that indicates the anime's bullshit power chain of Kid Boo > Gohan Boo applies here and Janemba is barely stronger than SSJ3 Goku who isn't greatly above Fat Boo.

There's nothing that indicates it was a huge power up. He simply flared up an aura, Gogeta nor the Kaios who were spectating the event noted a huge power up.

His power up indicates it’s monstrous. His name is Super Janemba, clearly drawing parallels to Super Buu. Gogeta clearly is drawing parallels to Vegetto.

the entire point is for AT to essentially be copying M12.

It makes absolutely no sense for Super Janemba not to be stronger than at least Siper Buu, that’s the point of the character

Super Boo's Japanese name is officially "Majin Boo (Evil)." Super Boo is a term used as a throwaway in the dub when Gotenks-Boo/Gohan-Boo describes himself, plus M12 came out after Vegetto had already appeared in the manga, and even in development it was written after Toriyama had already decided to fuse Goku and Vegeta together which was way way way after Super Boo first appeared. Nothing indicates Super Janemba is meant to parallel Super Boo. If anything he might more likely have inspired Kid Boo since both are pure evil creatures that do not have the intelligence to speak and push SSJ3 Goku around.

I think he's just full of shit since he even said it'd be futile if Gohan merged with Goku even though he isn't even that much more powerful than Gohan alone. I think he might have expected some competition though since he said he wouldn't chance Goku fusing with Gohan and he didn't act like Vegetto was much weaker than what he'd have expected even while he didn't grasp how much stronger Vegetto really was than he is.

According to Goku's words (M12) he kept getting stronger, but still he would say that his SSJ form must still be inferior to Vegeta SSJ2 (in order to have Vegeta SSJ2 > Pikkon).

I think as much as Goku SSJ3 (M12), Fat Janemba and Super Janemba should be slightly superior to Gotenks Base (Post).

Super Boo is much more powerful than Super Janemba.
