Chapter: 127, P12.6
Context: talking about how Goku defeated Kuririn
Tenshinhan: “What was pathetic about that ending?...There’s no way these idiots could tell. In the instant that ‘Son’ brat showed himself, he showered him with 8 karate chops…But made them weak enough to only knock him out of bounds…â€￾

Chapter: 127, P13.1-2
Tsuru-sennin: “H-he’s outrageous…He just might be good enough to have defeated Tao Pai Pai…â€￾
Kame-sennin: “Goku gets bigger and bigger each time I see him…I get the feeling that my position’s already vanished…â€￾

Tsuru only thinks Goku is good enough to beat Taopaipai after seeing the power Goku uses to defeat Krillin, not the power Goku showed before when fighting Krillin.

So is Tao stronger than Krillin and by extension Yamcha and Chaozu at the 22nd? I don't like them being so weak, but it seems suggested by this statement. Thoughts?

Master-Roshi & Yamcha & Kuririn were surprised at Goku after his fight with Chapa-o. He already saw Goku, before the tournament. Kuririn even asked about Goku already using full-power (obviously it wasn't his full-power).

so:

Goku (vs Chapa-o) > Goku (post-Karin Training)

Also if you were to follow that stament then, Master-Roshi is also weaker than Tao, since apparently:

Goku (Match-Level) ~/> Tao-Pai-Pai > Master-Roshi

he could have been (i don't knw), but apparently goku's performance against him was enough for them to tell he's gotten a lot stronger since the last time they saw him.

Don't see why he would be.

That is not objective thinking as you like to put it. ;)

Yeah, but don't you think the statement is weird then? Why would Tsuru only think Goku who beat Krillin "just might" be good enough defeat Tao and not the Goku who was fighting about on par with Krillin?

Fantastische Hure, who is 'them'? Just Roshi? Or Krillin, Yamcha, and Roshi? I'm sorry but I'm honestly too lazy to get up and check. lol

Everyone of them.

Kuririn asked Goku why he already used full-power so early. Master-Roshi makes an internal dialogue about that. Yamcha is surprised, too.

Tenshinhan tells him Goku beat Tao Pai Pai so obviously seeing his strength he would say it

Thats nothing to do with Krillin but just Goku being strong

If anything, Tao was being overrated due to his reputation.

Yea I agree... Goku ( Full Match Level ) exceeded even Roshi ( 22nd Budokai ). By Tsuru's logic only someone above Roshi would ensure him of Tao Pai Pai's defeat which doesn't make sense since Roshi is already a lot stronger than Tao.

Roshi > Goku ( little more effort vs kuririn ) > Goku ( initial, vs chapa ) > Goku ( kuririn's estimation ) > Goku ( uranai baba ) > Tao Pai Pai... so only a Goku who surpassed Roshi would ensure Tsuru that his brother was defeated ? Seems clearly to me that he overestimated his brother.

Considering Taopaipai and Tsurusennin were brothers, it would be weird for him not to know his strength. Him admitting Goku can beat Taopaipai would actually reinforce that he knew his strength.

We could just assume that's it been a while since Tsuru-Sennin saw Tao fight and forgot his strength level. He is an old man after all so he probably doesn't have the best memory.

It's never suggested though that he forgot it, otherwise he wouldn't have e even made his statement.

It doesn't have to be suggested that he forgot it. All he remembers is that Tao is really strong. How strong he is exactly is what he overestimated due to his advanced age.

That is reaching considering they are brothers. At the least he should know his strengh from the last time they saw each other. It's very doubtful he thinks his own brother is some strong dude, he should know his capabilities.

Mhhh, it's all we got. If the statement wasn't contradicted than yeah that would be true but since it's contradicted we have to do some assuming. Judging by their personalities, I doubt they were real close to begin with so it could have been decades since they seen each other.

Tsurusennin statement is more objective than implications because it's an actual statement. It would take an actual statement like his to contradict him, not an implication.

Tsurusennin said at the Budokai that Taopiapai hasn't called in three years. Then he figures out it's because Goku killed him three years ago. So they seem close to me. Also they both like killing, so how are their personalities different? He is even training Tien to be an assassin.

It's a statement merely made out of reputation, it's not the same as Chappa's statements as the characters who know Goku has improved since fighting at Baba's palace still think Goku should have been in trouble even after watching him fight. That's how the Tao statements are contradicted.

Tsuru-Sennin found out Goku killed Tao when Goku commented on Chaozu's Dodonpa claiming it was the same technique Tao used on him, then Tien asked how Goku knew his name and Goku said that he killed him. I don't remember anything about the Crane calling Tao during the three year gap between the tournament.

I never said their personalities were different. I just fell the relationship was strictly professional They were "close" in the sense of how they wanted to kill people but im not sure if they really was visiting each other often.
