American secondaries are better off thinking he's Superman, because they're not actually gonna check subbed DB/Z or the manga once you tell them he's not; they're just gonna watch DBS and/or the DBS movies and go "ah, so this was the original intent," arriving at an even worse misconception than before.

There are too many to name. This is a pretty egregious example:

Goku was always benevolent even in the original manga, but FUNimation downplayed his less desirable traits because they thought a hero who happens to love his job and is a country dwelling NEET wouldn't be appropriate for the target audience.

I blame the original FUNimation dub for Goku not being as popular as other characters like Piccolo, Vegeta, or Gohan in North America because they made him into a boring Superman clone.
