I personally like this Timelines theory since it explains how Trunks killed Freeza on Cell's timeline:

Well it's about time travel so I don't expect it to be anything easy

Each horizontal line is a timeline. Right on the start of each line is the name of the timeline. Boxes explaining events have thin vertical lines linking them to their timelines, so knowing what each box is talking about shouldn't be hard. Red lines indicates time travel. Pay attention to the tip of the arrows: they indicate when someone is leaving or arriving at a timeline.

Hope this helps, because I really don't know what's bugging you. Seems overwhelming at first look, but it's not really complex.
