Wasn't the original plan for Gohan to kill Nappa? It feels like post Kikoho, he no longer thinks Gohan can do it. Also, with Gohan finally tapping into his rage, shouldn't Piccolo tell him "Now is the time Gohan, release your energy!" But Piccolo has no confidence in Gohan at all here. I think this moment all occurred during the Kikoho. It doesn't mean Masenko can't surpass it, but it's a telling moment of when Piccolo's confidence completely dropped.Yeah Nappa >>>>>> Gohan. Duh.

Sure, the goal is for them to surprise Nappa and take him off guard.Remember the original plan was for Kuririn and Piccolo to distract Nappa for Gohan to kill him. Piccolo always knew Gohan couldn’t beat Nappa in a fair fight.
Exactly. Piccolo seems to abandon his SBC gameplan he used against Raditz near instantly once he met Gohan. Gohan has always been the plan.Problem is, Gohan chickened out. He’s simply not reliable because he doesn’t want to fight. Piccolo is still willing to let Gohan try when they go for the tail, but that’s because he’s their only shot.

So Gohan needs to be significantly above Piccolo.
It just takes too long. Don't have time to charge up all day. Piccolo and Krillen are only providing Gohan with a small window of opportunity, perhaps 5-10 seconds at most, that's all is realistically available.Agreed, though the SBC seems to have been ditched for other reasons since he never used it again.
That line about Gohan is just an argument people use to justify Raditz being 1500. It doesn’t have to mean Raditz > Gohan.
Its weird for Raditz not to acknowledge being surpassed
Maybe, but not really strong evidence. That hit he took speaks for itself.
