It's at least a significant enough gap that Piccolo's not in his tier like Trunks is.

For convenience I just like to imagine it to be the same gap as pre-Kami fusion Piccolo and pre-rosat SSJ Vegeta. Although Trunks is likely closer to Vegeta in the Cell Games than he was before their training.

No, i think Kamicollo is more skilled than Zarbon. I wold like for Kamicollo to be a rival to Vegeta but Cell leaving him out of his little s'saying about who's competing with the Cell Juniors makes me think there is a noticable gap.

Anime line is changed to include Piccolo I believe, but as we know that's Toei's arbitration (like Piccolo vs. Cell Jrs)

But in Herms translations, it seems Kamiccolo already knew he was nothing to Cell, whereas Vegeta is at least confident in the Cell Games, before Goku showed his true power.

Perhaps you could explain that because Vegeta didn't sense buff Cell, but Piccolo did? I pulled that argument out of thin air in about 10 seconds, so it isn't the best, but perhaps that could explain why Karin and Piccolo seem to know Cell's power better than Vegeta.

I meant when the Z warriors were fighting the Juniors. I think in Viz, Cell pretty much stated that Vegeta and Trunks are the only holding their own, while in Herms is more up to interpretation.

Oh, I was referring to a line when Goku surrenders against Cell and he points out that Vegeta, Trunks and Piccolo with training are still weaker than Goku. In the manga he only makes mention of Vegeta and Trunks in that instance (as well as later against the Cell Jr.s)

Not being confident in fighting Cell doesn't have to mean he can't put up a losing effort against a weaker Cell Jr.

Cell (to Gohan): “If you don’t show your true worth soon, things will go past the point of no return. Look closely. Vegeta or Trunks are barely fighting evenly…Even Son Goku is in trouble, having lost his stamina…”
Note: Cell says that “Vegeta ya Trunks” are fighting evenly; ya is a non-exhaustive word for ‘and’, meaning the things listed aren’t necessarily the only things there are to list. In other words, Cell’s line doesn’t necessarily mean that nobody but Trunks or Vegeta are fighting evenly, just that they’re the first examples to come to mind.

Semantics isn't really good enough to solidify putting Piccolo into a line he isn't mentioned in in my opinion

I just look at the fact that Piccolo is still standing and not any worse off than Vegeta or Trunks. Both are stronger, but that doesn't have to imply a significant difference. Everyone far below the Cell Jrs got knocked on their ass.

But if Kamiccolo is 88% of Vegeta, Vegeta would tool him without too much problems.
