Was Freeza's 3rd form necessary?

I just thought that why would made this form. Why couldn't he just make Freeza transform from 2nd to his original form and beat the hell out of Piccolo. Was it to show how strong enrage Gohan?

It looks better than his 2nd form in my opinion, so I would have instead swapped it with his second form and scrap the second form entirely.
From the writing's perspective, it pretty much shows the biggest flaw of the Freeza arc.(the whole ''this isn't even my final form'' cr*p) and on top of that, it's pointless, as already has been mentioned in this thread, final form would do just fine.
It also makes Piccolo an idiot for letting him transform and not teaming up with Gohan when he was in his second form and taking him out.
Piccolo pretty much could have stayed dead and it wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

Freeza Saga was full of unnecessary stuff.
-Why did Freeza start with such a high PL (530k)? The obvious answer is: to look fearsome. Then, why did everybody and their mommas get
haxed and pose a challenge to him? That cancels the purpose of trying to make Freeza fearsome in the first place. Perhaps it'd have been
better if Freeza began at a lower level or if he had no transformations, the others didn't get haxed and only Goku could fight him. I think
AT subconsciously recognized that would be better when he had Freeza imply that Goku>Ginyu>Everyone else.

Since it'd be better to not make a new topic, I figured I'd ask her: does anyone believe Freeza was at full-power in his 3rd form? Could he potentially power-up like he had to do in his previous forms?

I see no reason he'd start out at full power, since that was not the case with his previous form nor his next form. He was also so comfortably ahead of Piccolo that there'd been no need for his full power at all at that point.

In regards to the topic, it served to highlight Freeza's massive reserves of power (although "50% of my power is enough to annihilate ya" was more of a shock in that regard) so I'm fine with the fact that he revealed he had more than one form in store. What makes it a detriment to the writing of the arc is that Goku's one zenkai got him from weaker than Freeza's first form to stronger than this form despite massive gaps being implied and shown or stated.

Still, it's a lot better than Cell going into hiding and absorbing entire cities worth of humans, then getting semi-perfect only to get fucked by Vegeta because he had haxed training for a day. Same with Super Boo pulling absorption out of ass and suddenly spamming it because he was cornered.

Toriyama said part of the reason he scrapped it so fast was because it was rather complex compared to the other forms

My least favorite form of his. But because I am the biggest Freeza fan boy out there, I plan on getting a 3rd form figure of him. It's the last one I need.

Maybe it was the same thing as Semi-Perfect Cell. Toriyama thought he had an awesome character, but his writer urged him to hurry up and transform him already.

Wouldn't surprise me.

On the other hand, not all Freeza's forms work the same way. Otherwise, in his first three forms, he should've started with less than 10% that
form's power, since that was the case in his true form.
