I found his characterisation in the anime fitting with his Z self, with him embodying the same traits that made his Cell Arc self enjoyable in how he reacted to the difference between the same characters of different timelines such as Gohan and #18. He only really started to fall apart when the plot started giving him major haxes and his role and dialogue against Fused Zamasu made him into far too much of your generic Shonen mc. His manga self had little moments to stand out and had far more bland characterisation than his anime self. Whilst I liked the idea of his anime self being the one to defend his timeline, the execution was horrible and Manga Trunks was handled better in terms of the role he served in the plot.
As for Piccolo, he basically continues his characterisation from the Boo Arc - accepting of no longer being able to catch up to the Saiyans and often reduced to a babysitter, except with far less to do. It makes him little different from previous old rivals such as Ten and really makes his character have some wasted potential, especially when Namekian fusion and the introduction of God power ups has given the perfect opportunity for him to shine again.
Kuririn started off being one of the best handled characters in the Super anime with it being shown how his family is his main driving force and the training arc of him regaining his fighting spirit being pretty good development. Unfortunately, all this was made meaningless with how quickly he was defeated in the ToP. His manga self has far less going on, though at least he remained consistent in how he was portrayed rather than having a bait and switch done with the build up surrounding him.
