Shunsuiji is often referred as the right hand of Riboku. He has always shown a lot of loyalty to Riboku and was seething with the actions of the former king who didn't support Riboku nor cared about his country.

However, I've noticed that ever since Riboku and Kaine appeared a little closer, and since Riboku had said he had no pretensions of being the king, he seemed to act a little more distant, giving some weird lookings... As if there was something he wasn't in agreement with Riboku...

In the last battle, he stated he's not like the people of Ganmon... And seems hesitant in showing the same level of resolve as the others:

He's probably sick of Zhao in general. He seems to be a die hard Riboku loyalist and thinks nothing of Zhao. As you brought up he had little problem with suggesting that the king should be killed so Riboku could lead the nation. He probably lost motivation after he realized Riboku wasn't going to be the guy to do it.

What about Futei as well? He seems, to me, to be increasingly facing Riboku's comments with some sort of criticism or suspicion in the air... Like in the tunnel saying it looked really too good that it seemed always impossible to be true and that Riboku seems so well above (almost in a "it's too perfect to be true" tune)... And Riboku seems to place extra emphasis on Seika and their efforts, as a way to create all those tunnels. Besides, it seems like ever since Riboku said his next action, after being freed from prison by their guards, that he'd meet the general of Sheika, which already seemed kinda meh looking at Shunsuiji's reaction.

Seems like Riboku is plotting something with the far northern parts, perhaps.....
