What generation did you start competitive battling?

Did anyone do competitive battling back in the BW/B2W2 days? Or did everyone here start with XY/ORAS?

Never really did, unless you count Gen 3 school tournaments in elementary.

Dabbled in it around the time Gen IV was out, didn't really have the focus for it as a middle schooler, got more into it around Gen V time. Around 2012 or so, maybe a bit earlier. Didn't do much actual competitive battling in any of the actual games although I intend to try it out again soon.

I find competitive battling much funner on the actual games, just going to the trouble of making the Pokémon is a lot of work. It's also hard to get the right Hidden Powers in which case I usually have to find a replacement move for the Pokémon.

I tend to not use Hidden Power much anyway so I've never really run into that problem. And yeah, it was always the work that's put me off, and even now I don't intend to work too hard on, say, legendaries for example as it's too much of a pain to get the right IVs/natures for them.

I admittedly use powersaves to get the right IVs on legendaries, but getting the right nature isn't that hard with Synchronize.

Never really started non-showdown wise. Showdown-wise, dabbed in it since 2012 but only in random battles
