...was that the original was Japanese in everything. They wore Kimonos (I think I saw that), ate rice-balls, references & other things that wouldn't be in a western cartoon. Once it became an international success though they started making it more like a western cartoon with barely anything to distinguish it from other western cartoons.

They still eat or ate? I didn't know whether they still do (I think). Also I meant just in-general. It seemed more like animation from Japan. Everything about the series.

Well, parts of Johto and some parts of AG and DP had Japanese references.

I assume you mean mainly Kanto, which is definitely the one where that's most notable.

Tracey was introduced to replace Brock because he could have been seen as a racist caricature so they replaced him

True. Same with Rougela IIRC but I still felt it wasn't as generic back then. Kanto is the most obvious one though.
