What was Nappa's power level, and why?

Papasmurf, do you think Nappa could change his battle power? Vegeta's comment on Namek implies him and Nappa could not do it before, but it really seems both Nappa and Vegeta changed their power levels fighting the Z fighters. It's undeniable that Nappa showed much better fight prowess after his "power up".

Vegeta says he couldn't suppress his ki until Namek, so I don't think he could suppress at the time. I mainly just accept that "surfacing ki" argument since he was never read with a Scouter to see if his actual level increased and it helps clear up that plot hole.

Nappa can't suppress his ki, but he can hold back. At his maximum he's around 7500 maybe a bit above. His real strength lies in his attacks which he can amp.

What in the artwork suggests that? Goku told Nappa he was going to fuck him up for killing his friends. We see Goku's power slowly rise the more Nappa talks shit to him. He has no reason to decrease his power there, as it totally defeats the purpose of the scene.

The art isn't often a good indicator of subjective things. I really only use it to disprove claims like Vegeta and Trunks using SSJg2 in the Cell Game despite clearly having their regular Super Saiyan aura, or Gohan's supposed SSJ2 against Dabra lacking its own unique aura as well.

Goku powered down to 5,000 is just wrong. Goku kept his 8,000+ power, nothing indicates he didn't.

There isn't an actual reason that it doesn't make sense. Regardless, even if you disregard it it changes nothing. There shouldn't be a reason to have Nappa over 4,500.

Nappa still has a level above Goku's when he arrives. Krillin can sense Chi, so there's no reason to disregard his statement on Nappa having power beyond imagination.
