Which manga, or anime show, was the first to reveal transformations and a character pushing past their limits?

The earliest one I can think of that did limit-breaking transformations was Astro Boy when he gets upgraded to have 1 million horsepower.

This came out in 1964-1965. I'm sure the very first one was much earlier.

Ok, now I have more questions. Is Astro Boy a manga, or a comic? What's the difference between the two, or is there even a difference? Is there any form of media similar to a comic or manga that predates them?
