What's your favorite season of the anime?

So the anime may not have started the franchise in general, but it's a huge part of the franchise for sure. But what season was your favorite season and why? I personally loved the Indigo League the most, maybe it's for nostalgic reason. But I thought Richie was a cooler character than Ash honestly... I also enjoyed the first season that took place in Johto. I eventually stopped watching the anime after "Advance Battle"...

Kanto, and Orange Islands which was filler, were the only semi-tolerable seasons. Everything besides that is hot garbage.

Normally I'd say the same, though considering how much of a nostalgia factor those series rely on, I'll go with Diamond + Pearl due to it having the best character development.

Orange Island > Johto > Kanto > Hoenn > Sinnoh

And I haven't seen anything past that.

Johto > Orange Islands > Kanto >> Hoenn >> Sinnoh >>>>>>>>>> Unova > Kalos > Battle Frontier

Johto was the high point of the series for me. Johto is my favorite region in the games, I thought the anime of it was good.
Orange Islands was about as close to the Elite Four and Champion that we've ever gotten in the anime. But I thought the challenges/events or whatever you want to call it Ash did with the Orange Island Gym Leaders was a nice change from traditional battles.

Kanto - Still fun to watch even as a 20 year old adult
Hoenn - A considerable step down but it wasn't a bad way to kill Saturday mornings and it's refreshing to watch this region again after being bombarded with 2 bad ones.

Sinnoh was another step down but somewhat decent.

Battle Frontier, Unova, and Kalos so far have just been bad.

I haven't watched it consistently since the Orange Islands, but I know enough to know that Kalos shits over basically every other arc (except maybe Sinnoh). Pokémon all have actual personalities and development, animation at an all time high, no bullshit pity badges (technically that only applies to kanto), not as much filler (though Kanto was probably better in that regard due to it being so short), and Ash actually fully evolving all his pokémon.
