But it was implied that the kids got the most of the fusion multiplier only after training in the ROSAT. Perhaps Goku had that multiplier in mind when he said that Gotenks would be stronger than him.

No, it was merely stated that Gotenks powered up from training. The Fusion multiplier shit is just headcanon. Since the Fusion formula would naturally be something like (A+B) x Fusion/Potara boost, any gains experienced by the two halves would be amplified upon fusing.

Not really. He was seeking confirmation by seeing how Gotenks could move. The fact that he asked for Gotenks to show off his abilities does imply he isn't leagues above Goku, but the fact that Piccolo doesn't speak up after the display proves that he met expectations.

I think the Show me what you can do statement was a way of questioning his power. Like saying Your power is impressive indeed, but is it enough?

Because Gotenks' words were not a good source of information. Gotenks had believed that even his base form could defeat Buu. That's why Piccolo wanted to see him in action.
