Why didn't Goku hit Chi Chi?

Did he think he'd done something wrong? Or did he think Chi Chi wouldn't handle being hit because she's too weak? Don't wanna accidentally do a Tambourine vs Krillin. I wouldn't usually expect him to hold back so much. He just dodges or defends without countering.

He did hit her. It was a hell of a lot more aggressive than Roshi vs Yamcha in the 21st.
