Why do some people think Future Gohan...

Not saying that he is but there isn't really anything that says Future Gohan was stronger than Goku. I tend to put Gohan a little stronger though because of plot.

It'd be weird for him to even challenge them if he was lower than Mecha-Freeza. I guess it's just coming from not wanting to bloat, but I still kind-of find it ridiculous.

Gohan had no idea how the Androids compared to Mecha Freeza. All he knew was that, just like with
Mecha Freeza, they couldn't win without his father.

Gohan had a method to beat the Androids. Just get Bulma on a spaceship, travel to Namek, then blow up the Earth with the androids still on it and wish everyone back except them

Where do you think Future Gohan is? Higher than Namek Saga Goku and Mecha-Freeza?

It's implied Gohan gained a significant power up after losing his arm, so he's definitely under Mecha Freeza before he lost his arm in my opinion. Even #17 acknowledges he'll need to use more than half his power this time, which suggests Gohan was fodder to that power before. I don't think F. Trunks was twice as strong as Freeza or something when he arrived the first time either.

Well, I think it's supposed to sound impressive that #17 only used half of his power last time (even-though the special chapter, really didn't show much of anything). How is it impressive if Gohan was lower than Mecha-Freeza?

But we know for a fact that F. Gohan at death is slightly weaker than F. Trunks (Mecha Freeza) and that he gained a big power boost after losing last time, so that's how it works out. I don't think Toriyama intended for the future androids to be that strong, since he says repeatedly that they're stronger in the past and it's emphasized that if Goku hadn't died from the heart virus, it wouldn't have turned out that way. Makes me think that while Goku was weaker than them when he died, he still had a better shot than either gohan or trunks if he were given the opportunity to train to fight them.

This is a place where they don't know about the Rosat either.

Well yeah, Goku might have eventually won, had he been alive. But Trunks still called those Androids monsters and gave them a warning 3 years in advance, so there had to have been a significant difference in powers.

I don't have him that weak but stronger than Goku. It's just that power levels with #17 statement which could lead Gohan being weaker than Goku IMO.

I don't see the difference between 'seconds' and 'instant in that context.

Well yeah, there's no question that the androids were a great threat. But to try to fit in Yardrat Goku > expected Goku > Trunks >= Gohan > 1/2 #17 >> 2 arms Gohan > Mecha Freeza would create excessive gaps that weren't suggested, especially when it's implied the difference between #17 and Yardrat Goku was pretty large itself like you said. That limits the gap 17 could have on pre-training Gohan while having him a huge goal for Goku out of necessity. Doesn't really work.
