Would you have preferred if the Kai's version of re-booting DB were a new anime from sctratch, rather than just cutting the filler scenes of the original work?

Now that we are at it, how do you feel about Toei's work in general with DB? Although we have a fuckton of inconsistent fillers, I think that the soundtracks, fighting scenes did more good than harm to the franchise.

I'd probably say no for a redrawn reboot since the new art style has far less charm and distinctiveness to it than the original, not to mention the way colour is used in Super due to its digital animation rather than being hand-drawn receives far less variations and realism in shades and tones, making it look very artificial and "plastic" by comparison to DB, Z and GT. Kai doesn't have this problem due to just increasing the brightness of the original palette.

As for Toei's handling of DB in general, I'd say there are more pros than cons overall. Most of the fillers in Part 1 and early Z helped to improve the quality of the work, the Piccolo Daimao Arc in particular being substantially better in the anime, with the examples of damaging filler being only a handful during that time. Even later on despite pointless filler such as Bulma Ginyu, the Garlic Jr. Arc, the Kamehameha struggle at the Cell Games being dragged out, many scaling inconsistencies in the Boo Arc, etc. there were still many good ones to balance things out such as Goku struggling with 100x gravity, the days of peace before the Cell Games, the Great Saiyaman episodes and Idasa's mother being integrated into the main plot by telling Babidi about Goten and Trunks. On top of that, the music was great as well as some additions to fight scenes as well as some excellent moments of voice acting such as nearly everything Ryo Horikawa did during the Majin Vegeta segment. The anime version of Super is arguably even dumber than the manga's with how the latter half of the FT Arc and many parts of the ToP were handled, but Super is :trash in general.

I agree overall. You touched in a nice point regarding the designs and color advantages the original work had. I also feel the new Super's color gives a more unreslistic and even childish feel to the work. There's a long while I don't watch the anime, but some argue the Freeza and Boo arcs in specific felt dragged out, but ofc, nothing as bad as the assinine thing One Piece's anime feel, currently.

The Freeza Arc was definitely dragged out when it came to instances such as SSJ Goku VS Freeza having the reactions and events of Gohan and co. intercut so much in between episodes that are only meant to represent 30-60 seconds of the fight in-universe, which makes the battle being less than 5 minutes far more difficult to comprehend than in the manga. As for the Boo Arc, I'd say it depends. Some segments do get drawn out quite a bit, but it's usually with content that actually allows something different to happen in each scene with character interactions such as a lot of Goten and Trunks' scenes, natural ways to pad things out such as Dabura's meditation and fight segments that were unique such as Gotenks Boo psyching out Gohan; so indeed a far cry away from something like Super where barely anything of worth can happen after several episodes.

If it were redrawn in a style different than Super’s then I’m all for it.

They really should've reanimated it all. And not in the low-budget way the first three arcs of DBS were made.

Kai with HxH 2011 quality would be pretty rad.
