It's hard to tell due to it's shortness, I guess if we are going to really compare, the fight mimics Yamcha vs Goku, their second fight, don't you think? Even trading and then the clear advantage shown?

Good comparison. Look at Yamcha dodging the Saibaimen. It's not an afterimage imo, it's just Yamcha speed bltzing him.

Speed blitzes, lands an extra blow while blocking Saibaman's. I think it's a distant rivalry at best.

He didn't block though, the Saibaimen just couldn't reach him.

Yes he did. Look at the panel and you'll see a mark showing there was contact. Yamcha's hand is recoiling after blocking it.

I did and no, he's not blocking. Yamcha's hand is pretty away from the Saibaiman's hand and there's not scratchs in the animation indicating they shocked against each other. The marks you're talking about are put randomly through the page, in locations where there wasn't even a blown drawned, like below Yamcha's hair.

The lack of "scratchs" shows Yamcha's hand isn't actually in movement, whereas the Saib's clearly is (look the scratchs?). The Saibaimen just failed to hit Yamcha due to his small reach.

Hm, you could be right. Seems weird that the mark is placed directly right there though.

I just don't think those marks necessary indicate a place where there was a blow. In some instances it does, see Yamcha punching the Saibaiman's face, but they were also put in where there weren't blows drawned. The lack of scratchs on Yamcha's left hand also indicates it's not in movement. Just look how Yamcha's right arm being in movement was illustrated in that same panel, with various scratchs. Unless Yamcha blocked the Saibaimen's hand with just the wind (produced by barely moving his hands), that ain't blocking imo.

I mean, I'm not really going to argue against that, but it seems weird to have those white spots for just no reason, even the ones that look unrelated to the panel.

Goku took out King Piccolo in quick fashion even though they were even initially.

Do you think yamcha's KMHMH not finishing the Saibaimen off also indicates a small gap?
