Who is your favourite character in the medium? Simply say who and give a concise reason why.
As for myself, mine would be Oskar von Reuentahl from Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
Reuenthal is quite a unique individual. His personality is one trapped between two extremes. Because of being born through an act of adultery and mistreat by his father for such, he has quite a complex opinion on both women and himself. He at times views himself as one predestined for failure for his impure creation and despises his family lineage, yet also finds a sense of superiority against most others and pride in his own talent. He often treats women as inferior and despicable, yet has enough affection for Elfriede to shelter her despite her attempting to assassinate him beforehand. This act of kindness was likely due to relating to her in many ways due to her being related to a now disgraced family and ironically only disgraced because of Reuenthal's political manoeuvres, making him somewhat responsible for her actions.
Aside from these basic aspects of his character, there's the main drawing point of his development. Despite not getting fleshed out until the second season/third book, Reuenthal's relevance is one excellently handled as his eventual choices of ambition are constantly foreshadowed and built up throughout the series until receiving their payoff close to the finale. Moreover, the time and attention given to his friendship with Mittermeyer helps present a good deal of realistic chemistry and help makes the eventual conflict to come between them all the more poignant, especially with it being the realisation of what expectations I had for Reinhard and Kircheis' friendship to alter into before such was skilfully subverted.
Also doesn't hurt that he's given a stellar performance by the one and only Norio Wakamoto.
