A baby can't learn.
Perhaps it's a technological marvel or something. Humans certainly can't give babies orders and ship them to other planets, expecting them to remember anything.

It's a lot easier to take the out of universe approach. This segment of the story makes little sense. Goku is shown in Raditz's memory as a newborn child when he was sent away. Raditz also makes a point that the majority of Saiyans are sent to other planets to "train" them and teach them how to conquer. Yet somehow only himself, Vegeta, Nappa and Goku were away from Planet Vegeta during its destruction? How does that make any sense if all Saiyans are getting sent out at age 0?

This is a great point. What about all of the other Saiyans that were sent out as babies? Are we forgetting that this is a race who does this thing regularly? Makes no sense for there to only be 4.

In Minus it’s said that Freeza ordered all Saiyans to return to Planet Vegeta, and Goku was sneaked away off record.
Going by extended material as a whole there’s a handful more of Saiyans that got away. In canon we have Broly, Paragus, Tarble, Onio from Nekomajin and maybe his wife. Also a couple other Saiyans were in Nappa and Vegeta’s squad when the planet blew up.

Good question. What are the odds there were zero infants off planet that day? I think it's said they had a low survival rate, but still.
This might be some Order 66 stuff with Freeza sending soldiers to kill Saiyans in other planets. Remember how Dodoria killed Bardock's squad in the tv special?

That would be weird though since individual Saiyans weren’t actually feared it was more about them ganging up together. So like the weakest of the lot shouldn’t be a threat.

So? If there are many Saiyans who couldn't return to Earth, then there's still a group of Saiyans bigger than the 3 he spared.
If he didn't bother killing survivors, then either Goku, Raditz and Vegeta were the only infant Saiyans or there are many Saiyans out there we never saw.
