Has your appreciation for King Robert grown a lot after Danaerys' character assassination in the most recent episode proved him completely right?
Also, top 5 favourite GoT characters? (You can't use a certain Season as a cutoff point. You're forced to count the most recent seasons)
Definitely so. I've always really liked Robert and it's a shame he died so soon, but in retrospect I'm kinda glad he did.
You know, I was holding out on character rankings since you gave me a challenge about it and I wanted to get current before I gave that. But, I will do that here:
1. Eddard Stark.
I found the man to be quite likeable, probably the only truly decent man we have seen in the show. His death was tragic; he sacrificed his life for the truth. He falsely confessed to his treason to keep the peace and hopefully save his daughters. I find that to be admirable.
2. Robert Baratheon.
It was a tough call between him and Eddard, since they're both so good. Since the whole premise of the show was to fight over the iron throne, Robert's death seems like an inevitability and a forgone conclusion. For a character who's surviving on borrowed time, he was fantastic. Funny, drunk, deviant, but also the best monarch we've seen.
3. Sandor "The Hound" Clegane.
I didn't really appreciate him until the Battle of Blackwater and his offer to help Sansa. He had some unexpected chemistry with Arya, and his moments with Tommund were comedy gold. I especially like how he threw the rock at the wight and called it a "fucking idiot"
4. Olenna Tyrell.
Not much to mention about her other than she was a snappy bitch and I loved it. :King
5. Tywin Lannister.
Before the Lannisters went dumb. Tywin perfectly encapsulates the look and feel of a Lannister patriarch. Having someone so easily put Tyrion, Jamie and Cersei in their place was very satisfying to see. He always seemed to act pragmatically and effectively, which is unlike virtually everyone now.
If we did have a season cut off, perhaps I would have included Tyrion, Stannis and Littlefinger, but they were all bastardized.
