SSJ2 Gohan:
~Budokai: 60
~Drained: ~0

SSJ2 Goku/Vegeta:
~Ki: ~30-40
~Power: 70-75
They have to be drained more than that, since they lost the equivalent of Gohans power.

So why did Goku lose so much power at the CG? This is an entirely new concept for me, I have no idea how it works.

He was still stronger than CG Vegeta. The thing is that he was losing power rapidly which I believe the same would apply to Goku and Vegeta during their fight. Remember, Super Saiyan 3 drains Goku a lot while Kid Buu has infinite stamina. Despite that, Goku remained on par with Kid Buu for multiple exchanges before Goku's stamina could no longer keep up. Had the battle continued, Goku would have lost because his power would have reached a point where it could no longer be maintained.

Piccolo even made the same remark when Vegeta fought Android 18. He stated that Vegeta was on par with Android 18 initially (obviously 18 was holding back) yet suggested that Android 18 would eventually overcome him because Vegeta's stamina would drop. That would imply that despite exhausting ki, Vegeta's power could be maintained up until a certain point.

The manga has made it clear how losing ki doesn't necessitate a drop in battle power. That only happens once their stamina reaches a certain point. It's not a 1:1 relationship between the two. Therefore, I believe Goku and Vegeta lost ~60% of their ki/stamina yet still retained enough power to overcome Initial Fat Buu.

Ki is just energy right? If you throw a bunch of full power punches and kicks you’ll be depleted and won’t be at full power anymore.

Yes. Piccolo threw 2 fully powered Makankosappo against Raditz, regenerated his arm, and still remained at full power. SSJ Goku still remained at full power even after throwing a bunch of heavy attacks and receiving a direct attack from Frieza's Nova Strike. Depleting your energy doesn't guarantee losing power or losing power at a similar rate. Piccolo's stamina definitely dropped against Android 17 far more than his power did.

There’s got to be a bit of a difference. They fire blasts stronger than their own power levels and don’t run out of energy somehow.

Why wouldn’t ki work just like energy in the real world?

I don’t lost power every punch I throw. If I manage my energy I can stay near full power for a long time.

Why would DBZ work different?
