You're comparing Toriyama's product to Toei's product, it's not comparable.

What comparable is Toriyama's Super product to OG manga where consistency is 9/10.

Toriyama's the one planning out Super, a move that's preposterous since the guy has admitted on numerous occasions to being bad at forethought even in a time when he was good at other stuff. Never mind now when he's well past his prime. He's not exempt from the bad story decisions screwing the new show up.

I'd also like to add that retcons aren't by default bad, Goku being an alien with Roshi being completely aware of the fact before he even met him, is a prime example. Super's just awful at doing it.

Yup. Beerus purposely lied during that match. Probably to spur on Goku and Vegeta's growth by letting them think reaching him was an actually attainable goal rather than something far off in the distance due to Beerus's power being in another dimension.
