Beerus vs Enraged SSJ2 Vegeta

I see many people claiming that Vegeta didn't surpass Goku in the manga and would like to discuss that.

First of all, why would we assume that Beerus used less power/effort against Vegeta? Beerus was visibly shocked when Vegeta absorbed his first attack and then got smoked. It was clear by the end of it that he was allowing himself to be hit, but this didn't appear to be the case initially. On paper Vegeta is clearly performing better than Goku.

Second point, on page 40 of volume 1 (chapter 3 page 2), there is a note from the editor claiming to refer to the BoG film to fill in the events at Bulma's party. The BoG film also has a pretty clear statement favouring Vegeta over Goku.

Good catch on the editor's note. I think this only goes to prove how the manga and movies are complementary and fill the gaps for each other. The anime is probably is this mix too, even if there's no editor's note or AT interview making the link.

I've seen it argued that because there is no direct statement in the manga, Vegeta has not surpassed Goku's level.

Apparently the “editor” is a Viz editor, not Uchida or whoever’s the editor back on Shueisha.

I have no idea why people would think that Vegeta is weaker than Goku here. Even if it’s not directly stated what else would Kuririn mean by “Was Vegeta always this strong”? It’s a very basic plot point of this saga and the feats say it all. But hey, if some people think Vegetto > SSJG just because the line is omitted, I’m not even surprised

One thing I do think it’s possible in the manga is that Vegeta’s using a new form instead of a rage boost given what the Black Saga shows us, but either way he’d pulverize Goku here.
