Chichi had asked for a divorce? (read OP)

After Saiyans Saga, when Chichi was mad at Goku, considering him responsible for Gohan being kidnapped by
Piccolo, what if she had asked for a divorce? Would Goku have just shrugged it off and kept training so the
series wouldn't have been affected?

Goku would probably accept it, though he'd be a little disappointed. With Gohan's outburst in the hospital, it'd probably lead to Gohan choosing to stay with Goku. Everything in the main plot goes the same up to the Boo Arc, in which Gohan wouldn't have slacked off in his training and would kill Dabura. He likely doesn't end up with Videl, however, so no Pan. During BoG's events, one of two things happen:

1. Beerus doesn't wake up due to the lack of Goku, Goten and Pan stopping SSG from happening. Freeza kills everyone months later.
2. Beerus wakes up due to the existence of Broly, Paragus and Tarble still making SSG a possibility. With the lack of Boo to eat the pudding or Goku to request a fight, Beerus leaves after the party. Freeza still kills everyone.

I didn't get the impression that Gohan slacked off due to Chi-Chi. He just preferred studying over practicing martial arts. It's his true passion.

Chichi's controlling nature definitely seemed to influence him on that path though. We saw how quickly he threw studying aside in the Namek Arc once he was away from Chichi. With that factor out and him taking into account his father's words of the Earth's protection being his job now, I could see Gohan training seriously after the Cell Games if Chichi wasn't around.

Then again, with Goku's death, he'd probably have no choice but to move in with Chichi, unless he'd rather live with his Big Green daddy.

But all the conflict that was going on Namek asked for a serious demeanor. Even on the spaceship, he was still aware of the threat Vegeta posed. With Cell being finished, there'd be nothing to spark on him the need for training. To quote Vegeta, "peace does no good for a warrior".

Do you think Chichi would give up so easily? Wouldn't she try to take custody of Gohan?
