Could it be that...

Kaku's measurement ability with Fukurou (when all the CP9's members hit him) was underrated since he's a swordsman, and techniques with the swords count, therefore, more than striking ability? Mihawk for instance may not have that big of a striking ability when compared to foes that are ranked in overall battle ability as below him.

I highly doubt it was meant to be that deep. It was a direct measure of physical strength, and that physical strength matches up with the force that you can apply to a sword.

Nah he’s got a point. Can Shanks punch anywhere near as hard as brutes like Big Mom and Kaido? I doubt it.

Luffy has already punched Kaido on equal terms and he's a midget.

Going back to the original question though, Kaku's doriki was shown to be slightly ahead of Jabra, and that is exactly the gap we saw between them even considering their devil fruits. I think if Kaku was meant to be even stronger compared to Jabra it would have been apparent. Zoro and Sanji were pretty well equals at that point.

I don’t believe Kaku is much stronger than Jabura. My point is that Doriki alone isn’t a huge factor when there are factors that play into their fighting style. If you force Kaku to fight without his swordsmanship, would his 20 more Doriki be enough to defeat Jabura? I don’t see it.

I also think that Zoro's measurement of power when punching shouldn't be above Sanji's kick. Sanji fights by directly connecting his legs to the opponent... therefore his striking ability counts more than a direct hit from Zoro. When you're a swordsman, your technique with the sword goes beyond simply the strength you have in your arms imo. You project your sword to cut your enemy through different techniques, like the flying attacks Zoro is able to dish out. A sword is an addition to your strength.

Wouldn't everyone be a swordsman if it worked that way? What benefit would there be to not using one if you're at a direct disadvantage?

Weapons can be an advantage depending on how well you use them. Luffy for example jokingly tried to use swords against Arlong and got bodied quickly.

I'm just saying that whoever fights without swords, is expected to have a bigger striking ability than whoever uses a sword... but if their striking abilities are almost tied, then the sword serving as a "go beyond that" could make a difference.

But that exact same logic can be used for people who specialize in physical attacks. Luffy can punch harder than Zoro. We saw in Whiskey Peak when both of them were equals that Zoro's swords gave him no advantage whatsoever.

And as we found out, neither were superior.

Luffy would punch harder than Zoro there. Zoro would bridge the gap with his swordsman ship skills.

You think that Luffy being fat for most of the fight had anything to do with it?

So you’re saying Luffy had higher doriki in that case? I’m not opposed to it but I don’t think that’s how the doriki system was meant to work.

Even after he returned to normal weight the fight didn’t change.
