Piccolo is the best hands down. Best character in development and depth. Really tactical as well. Vegeta's just a poor man's Piccolo, IMO.

Krillin and Future Trunks are up there too. Krillin remained the most relevant human in the series as well as the strongest, while Future Trunks might not be that relevant, but is a very deep character, and you can feel for his tragic backstory.

I don't know why but Goku is one of the few main charcters that are of my favourites in a specific anime.

Vegeta, even though he annoys me in the Boo arc (so does everyone). I like how you never really get the feel that he is a Z fighter despite the fact that he fights for earth.

Gohan for me, I like the idea of somebody that doesn't like to fight, but when he does he tends to shit on others.

I'd say Piccolo is probably the best due to his history and character development, but Vegeta is my favourite.

Vegeta definitely has the best character development out of the lot, particularly in the Boo Arc, and he's overall my favourite of those available for his character arc and ambitious nature. Piccolo would be a contender if it wasn't for the bulk of his character development being purely contained within the Saiyan Arc, with his changes in the Cell Arc after fusing being an artificial change due to him figuratively and literally becoming a different character in all but name (and being shafted for the most part in the Boo Arc).
