Did Freeza 3rd Form power up to deflect Gohan's blast?

I disagree with that possibility. If that was the case, he wouldn't have felt it necessary to transform into his true form right afterward.

I think Toriyama just didn't want to keep drawing Freeza's overly complex 3rd form design. He even said so in an interview that since it was already stated Freeza has two more forms after his 2nd form, he'd just make him cut to the chase and enter his final form. He also planned to have Semi-Perfect Cell do more in that form but was pressured by his editor to just make him Perfect already.

Nope. Could have though, but he decided to jump to his true form and spare Toriyama from the work.
