Trunks was using SSJ against Baby Vegeta Golden Monkey and then fired up.

Was it SSJ2 or just SSJ?

Just Super Saiyan. The GT Perfect Files don't list him amongst the users of SS2, making it apparent the occasions with lightning or robust auras are no different than SSJ Vegetto having lightning in both the anime and manga for dramatic flare.

That's what seems to be the case, though the Perfect Files have a different idea by saying he only used it in GT when skipping it to go SS3. I'd say it's probably easier to chalk up the SS2-esque design in that seen with Rild as an art mistake on Toei's part as it doesn't really make much sense for Goku to have gone to SS2 for a second and then back down to SSJ when he had no reason to do so.
