Did he unlock armament haki to survive the bomb capable of destroying a large amount of Arabasta? Or maybe conqueror's, since he conquered his fear of death and bombs?
Or is he just that physically strong? Maybe Sanji could survive the bomb too. Pell was the only one who could fly, so he took the bomb to protect the buildings and weaker residents of Arabasta. The bomb didn't hurt him. But he flew away because he was embarrassed, cuz he expected it to kill him and he got embarrassed hearing them praising and mourning him. It's like that guy in Gintama who turns up to his own funeral and doesn't know how to reveal that he's really alive. Or that other character who is ill ij hospital and fakes the severity so the others will feel bad for her/see what they ssy about her, but then they're really sad and talking nicely about her so it's too awkward to reveal she's really ok so she ends up in a coffin heading to her own funeral. If it's not haki it's definitely this.
PS can birds IRL actually fly straight upwards like that? I don't recall seeing that. Birds even get stuck in chimneys I think? Which are vertical.
