Disregarding what's canon or not I'd say the anime is more enjoyable, like with any other anime.

Dragon Ball: anime.
Dragon Ball Z: Manga.
Dragon Ball GT: lol.
Dragon Ball Suparar: Manga.

I do enjoy Funi Kai much more than the Z anime or manga.

DB - anime and manga equally for me, although I skip every filler.

Z - manga definitely. Z Filler sucks.

GT - shit.

Super - slightly prefer the anime, and far moreso for the newest arc. Manga is too fricken concise, although somewhat less contradictory.

Not to mention that since Suparar's anime and manga follow the same basic outline but deviate from one another, it's really confusing as to what is meant to be "canon" in regards to Super.

I think "it's a promotion for the anime!" Is a pretty weak argument against the manga. Like, did Goku go SSJG or not against Hit? Does in the manga, doesn't in the anime. Gotenks is SSJ3 against Beerus in the manga, he isn't in the anime. Little differences like that. I guess it's better to see them as two seperate existences.

I think the anime has the advantage of having somewhat more coherent storytelling due to not skipping so much, while the manga does at least have some slightly more direct participation from Toriyama as he checks the script in the manga more thoroughly than the anime. Either way, I don't think Toriyama cares enough to denounce either medium as not canon, and both are ultimately interpretations of Toriyama's outlines for the story.

I lean towards the manga simply because it skips FNF entirely. :et

Seriously, that arc was like shoving a razorblade up your urethra.

I don't think Toyotaro had the balls to tell Toriyama that entire revive a decades old villain after a timetraveling kid made a joke of him plot was shit, he probably just skipped it because he did the manga version of the original FnF movie :et

But yeah, for the current arc I still prefer the anime, as it's got far better direction and plotting than the early arcs ever did. Even changed directors during the U6 arc (seemingly even Toei realized the one for the movie adaptations was horrid :troll)

I guess two wildly different adaptions incentivises fans to watch/read both.

If Black Goku arc is adapted into a movie I might watch it.

Doubtful. Toei knows the movie adaptation arcs had low ratings, so I doubt they'll reverse adapt once more. Ironically they aired an extended TV version of the FnF movie to contain the Future Trunks and Goku Black bits (undoubtedly to advertise Super) as well as Trunks narrating Freeza's reign of terror before he cut it short.

I know, I just prefer the movies. Less tiresome and better looking.

Do you think the Freeza > base Saiyans implication came from Toriyama?

Probably. Toei's had base Gohan one-shotting Freeza in that movie and since SSJ Gohan wasn't even in it, I doubt it was some Toei base Saiyan logic to draw out pre-SSJ fights.

What disappointed me most about that statement was that if they just changed Freeza with Majin Boo, none of this controversy would be an issue, since Goku just wouldn't have surpassed Boo in base or SSJ or whatever the fuck, and defeating Boo seems like a way bigger accomplishment to tell Beerus than some guy who's astronomically weaker than him and could be one-shot killed by Kaioshin.

To be fair in DragonBall Super Goku also says something like "I could fight you just like this" referring to his regular state, but since Bills is a God & respect and stuff he transforms to fight him, which in my opinion implies his regular state is powerful as is.

Yeah, I guess Freeza must've trained in his sleep for a month the last time he saw Beerus, only to lose that power and return to square one when he had space-flu :troll2

So Beerus just overrated Freeza massively :troll
