I don't think Super is shit anymore anyway. A few badly written episodes here and there like the last one, but still an okay show.

If you haven't given up on that after the Genki Dama sword and nobody mentioning the one-hour limit, you have your hopes up way too high. Irrationally so.

Just to be clear, I don't think Super is a GOOD show. I realize that with DB's insane popularity and Star Wars-like dedication from its fans, Toei's more prone to slipping into the cracks of their cheapness and they're doing a surprisingly good job with it ---- but despite that it's still chock-full of idiotic feats and crappy power ups being pulled with zero explanation. It also goes up and down in quality and frequently fails to deliver on its biggest promises, like Merged Zamasu's death which honestly deserved at least two more episodes of buildup.

But after the string of failures of GT, Episode of Faggot, FnF and (a lot of) U6 it at least outdoes my shit expectations. Just not all the time and not always when it should.

I don't think I can agree on it being good, I think most of the Black arc gets to that point but fuck are the last few episodes of it bad in terms of writing. It's all nonsense piled on to more nonsense from Black's origin to Trunk's various assortment of bullshit power increases (I'm not saying Z didn't have those a lot too but in a shorter arc like this, they feel a LOT more rapid fire) to stellar writing like Black realizing anger can make people stronger 2 episodes after he verbally acknowledges Goku's anger made him stronger....

Agreed, but after the Vegetto retcon, Kaioken coming back for no reason and everybody and their mother being haxed against M. Zamasu I couldn't care less about a lot of that stuff.

The anger stuff I can actually somewhat accept since Vegeta was calm for most of his beatdown of Black, so it's not like he was rage haxing his way to stardom there. The scythe making reforming clones made me puke and the Mafuba was pointless as shit though.

My issue with the beatdown is that it kind of doesn't make any sense either

Goku and Vegeta train for 3 years and they don't make any significant increases, Goku only does because he thought about tinkering with KK again but they're not much stronger at all. Then Vegeta does get noticeably more powerful training for six months by himself? What?!

And then his speech is kind of dumb too, Black not using Goku's body as well as Goku? Please, Black went from SS2 tier in Base to being able to take on a suppressed Blue tier fighter and completely trounce them with just Super Saiyan after one fight. Goku WISHES he was that good at getting stronger.

Yeah they were just being unnecessarily dramatic, although with Vegeta always babbling about proud Saiyans you can expect him to say crap like that anyway.

The Rosat thing didn't make much sense, but at least they tried to explain it with that whole Vegeta furiously training stuff. Trunks magically keeping up with SSJR Black in SSJ2 occurred like 7 episodes before that happened so I grew indifferent to something that has an explanation tied to it technically.

Goku had a pure heart when Krillin died the first time, it didn't give him the power to stop Piccolo from kicking his ass, twice. Nor did Tao Pai Pai killing Upa give him a rage boost, or Vegeta murdering people to goad him into a fight. Gohan's boost had nothing to do with a good heart: it was merely a way for him to tap into hidden power that was repeatedly physically and verbally stated to be his thing alone.
