As far as I know, he does not contribute to the manga at all. The interviews on Saiyan Island and Kanzenshuu and such don't mention anything about him contributing to the manga. Seeing as how the manga follows the anime, it basically works like the manga gets its info from the anime, the anime gets majority story info and notes from Toriyama and just adds slight things to it.

Now to some that will not be considered canon because the most hardcore of canon purists will say that if AT didn't have 100% control over it, it's not canon, but if you're gonna be that strict then you might has well not consider anything after Freeza as canon because AT had major influence in changes from others for the Androids arc and on. If Toriyama had his way originally, Cell, at least as we know him, would be something completely different or not exist at all.

When I say I don't see super as canon to z, that's my own deal, because factually it is. Contradictions and whatever else aside. I just personally can't ignore shit that was established in Z for what has been said in Super. But that doesn't change the fact that it is canon, and me not seeing it that way personally doesn't make it wrong. I know that.

Toriyama is an interesting, funny guy! It's been decades since he has really done anything with DB, then 30 some odd years after his manga finished, he comes back like "TAKE A LOOKY LOO AT THIS, SUPER FANS!" And just does whatever cause he don't give a shit. I don't think he ever did, he just trys to have fun with it. I mean DB was originally a gag manga, he didn't expect it to become so popular and obviously never intended for it to go on as long as it did. He got sooooo burnt out on it by the Buu arc, he really got lazy and phoned it in.

After 30 years, he has taken a long break and is ready for more wacky shit! And that's what he is doing, enjoying it again.

Fans like us dissect and analyze it in ways he never expected, especially western world fans more so. Any crazy shit he comes up with that may blatantly contradict past stuff, he doesn't care, he is just trying to make it fun and not overthink it. But sometimes dat nigga goes overboard because as a story, certain things need to remain constant and..... flow.... like a woman's period for example.

Speaking of the manga, I want to ask you two about how you put the manga together. I hear Toriyama-sensei checks the storyboards for each chapter.
Toriyama:
That’s right.
Toyotarō:
Since Chapter 1 I’ve used Toriyama-sensei‘s plot as a basis, but have been allowed to expand on it.

Toriyama:
It’s better that way.

@Drock likes better what has no logic behind it, that's why he wants the anime to be the real canon, over the more consistent Toyotaro's manga :king

I just like anime more overall. Truth be told, I dont really read the manga. Is it more consistent? If so, that's good. Maybe after Super is finished he'll be like "I like the manga better, it's now canon over the anime!"

I like the anime more as well, because at least its not dragged out like it used to be, and the direction has improved a lot compared to the horrible first two arcs after they changed directors twice. The manga version skips over too much to tell an organic story imo.

I also enjoy the anime more, but the manga is more consistent, I'd say.

I always prefer anime to manga. I like manga, but I like colorful, flowing animation/moving characters and talking and stuff more than still panel drawings with speech bubbles.

Same way I like animated Marvel and DC and live action more than the comics. Even if they aren't all accurate to the comics. Same way the DB anime isn't always accurate to the manga.

^True, and the scenes are generally more touching due to the soundtrack and so. But I recently tried to watch the anime version of DBZ and its pacing annoyed me a bit. While fillers can be good to let you get closer to the characters, I think it drags things too much.

Yeah, the pacing, choreography and art consistency usually being worse in anime form is why some prefer the manga.

Toei at their worst still makes episodes better looking than Togashi's scribbles like Gon vs. Genthru and Morel vs. Cheetu :king :king

I gave the manga like a 3/10 just for that :king
