Gap between Goku and Gohan @ Cell Games

I don't think so EV, not from regular fighting at least. Only when they got severely injured, like the humans taking a huge blow from Nappa. Although I also don't think it's necessary for every single loss of ki to be noted.

I remember when I had him like 4x stronger way back. No idea what I was thinking. I guess it was because of the idea that Goku looked like he was playing around that made it seem gigantic.

That seems fair.

Gohan considering Goku as "playing around" shouldn't have any impact on the gap at all. Goku could be equal with Gohan and Gohan would still think Goku was playing around because: [Gohan's Expectations Of] SSJ Goku >> SSJ Gohan

This is not to say I believe Goku is equal to Gohan, I'm simply saying Gohan's expectations should be a non-factor when it comes to determining the gap.

The problem with what you are suggesting EV is that Cell is significantly superior to Gohan. If that's the case here's the chain.

Cell (Vs Gohan) > Gohan > Cell (vs Goku) > Goku
