The more I see these posts on how the kids got so strong from nothing, the more I'm satisfied how Super handle them both.

It's difficult to pin down exactly what was meant with this sequence, but Gohan's intention going in was to sharpen his skill and shake off the rust. It wasn't meant to power up in any significant way. He had no idea Goten was strong either, and chose him simply out of convenience.
But it's clear that they are both giving a girthy performance in the two scenes we see. You don't sweat bullets, grit your teeth, and flare an aura if you're taking it easy. Goten might not have to be on Gohan's level, but he should be relevant enough to push Gohan to use noticeable effort. What that threshold is for you might be different for me.
Cell was panting when he fought Goku though, who we know wasn't anywhere near at his best. Not that I think Goten is that weak anyway, but you don't need to be at fp to get tired. I can get tired from doing laps around the gym even if I don't use my full speed.
We see Cell later power up. :shit

But isn't pulling one's punch in the definition of sparring?Pyro said:Future Warrior said:Pyro said:We see Cell later power up. :shit

Do we ever see or get a hint that Gohan had more power in reserve that he didn't use against Goten?

That doesn't show that Gohan was suppressing.ahill1 said:But isn't pulling one's punch in the definition of sparring?Pyro said:Future Warrior said:

It shows he was holding back/pulling his punches, am I wrong? #17 can pull his punches to < 50%.Pyro said:That doesn't show that Gohan was suppressing.ahill1 said:But isn't pulling one's punch in the definition of sparring?Pyro said:Do we ever see or get a hint that Gohan had more power in reserve that he didn't use against Goten?

I do, but aren't you likewise ignoring the definition of sparring?Pyro said:ahill1 said:It shows he was holding back/pulling his punches, am I wrong? #17 can pull his punches to < 50%.Pyro said:That doesn't show that Gohan was suppressing.
Yes, we know that. We know Cell was holding back. We don't know Gohan was holding back power. Do you get my point now?

No, but the only requirement of sparring is not killing.
