Gohan's confidence vs Gotenks Boo

Goku knew that if Evil Boo absorbed Gotenks that it would be over for Gohan. Yet, once Gotenks was absorbed, Gohan didn't seem to understand that he was entirely outclassed until he actually fought Boo. Why did he appear confident before engaging Boo... could he not sense his ki? It looks like the same arrogant delusion that most villains show even when they are outclassed.

I personally think that the entire purpose of that scene is to show how Buu outsmarted him.

Gohan pretty much understimated him when it comes to intelligence so is also possible that he understimated him generally.

He still seems nervous based on his expressions/body language. Probably just didn't want to seem unnerved in front of Boo. That and also didn't realize the full extent of how outclassed he was. As in he knew he couldn't beat Boo but may have figured he could hold his own and last long enough for Fusion to wear off.

I always thought it was the same overly cocky attitude he had when he fought Cell.
