How strong do you guys think he became, and do you think that was where he maxed out in the arc?

I think he's at least stronger than the enraged power he displayed against Freeza. Why would he remain weaker after receiving a near death boost? Gohan's rage boosts are just his full power that his gentle personality inhibits anyway. Like Piccolo says, he only has to put his mind into it.

Vegeta even noted things were starting to look good when Gohan powered up too, so he ought to be fairly powerful. I bet he's on initial 2nd form Freeza's level, but not quite as strong as Freeza's powered up self.

As for where he maxes out, I'm not sure. I tend to flip on how accessible the power he displayed against 3rd form Freeza is. Was it a rage boost? Was the attack amplified?

Vegeta didn't quite say that.

Chapter: 299 (DBZ 105), P13.1
Context: after Gohan is healed by Dende
Vegeta: “Heh…Just as you’d expect of someone with Saiyan blood, after reviving his battle power has greatly risen…A-alright! Luck is turning our way just a little bit…”

"just a little bit".

@GreatSaiyaman123 what you think of this?

In a league of his own. I'd say that directly tells us that Gohan can't be that strong.

Would it be luck at all if he's not even as strong as the power that barely put a dent on Freeza?

I like to take the gap Initial 2nd form Freeza had over enraged Gohan (Often a 1.11x one) and make it the same powered up Freeza has over healed Gohan. It's at least a bit lucky that Gohan can still hold his grown the same way he did before, even if he can barely deal real damage.

This is about Piccolo and Freeza. Piccolo is helpless against Freeza because training under Kaio could never make him as strong as Freeza, in Kuririn's eyes. It doesn't help that Kuririn is the pessimistic one of the group and always doubted their chances.

Chapter: 295 (DBZ 101), P8.4
Context: still as Freeza powers up
Kuririn: “Wh-what ki…Th-there’s no way we can win…”
Freeza: “Naturally…Did you really think that 3 ants could win against a dinosaur?”

Stronger than his enraged self. It'd make little sense for him to be weaker than that if Vegeta viewed the situation as even slightly better. He'd view things as haven't changed if Gohan was weaker or equal to that level.

In a league of his own. I'd say that directly tells us that Gohan can't be that strong.
Keep in mind that Freeza had powered up since fighting enraged Gohan, and that version of Gohan didn't even manage to deal more than superficial damage to Freeza much like Vegeta was only able to deal superficial damage to #18.

Vegeta could have been counting on him becoming enraged again which we saw ended up happening against 3rd Form Freeza.

That'd be way too much of a hypothetical to be banking on though. Vegeta knows Gohan's rage boosts aren't 100% reliable, such as the injuries of his allies still offering zero change against Reacoom. That, and his prior rage boost required Kuririn seemingly dying to reach such heights, making banking on one of them being potentially killed for Gohan to only potentially reach the level where they could take down Freeza being counter-intuitive.
