Well like I said, you could make the gap just about anything and it'd still make about as much sense as anything else in the Boo arc since the costume is stated to hamper them as SSJs, but I like to think Toriyama would be keen on explaining they really are much stronger in base without the outfit since he's always given explanations about hindrances before - Goku being tired after the tournament and losing to Tamb, the heart virus, Vegeta's injuries making it hard to deal with an injured Ozaru Gohan.
