get that ominous feeling (for him) that goku was going to defeat him (or did he say something-else? if any-one can & wants to say. i can't remember i think)?

in-universe obvsly i think because out-universe is obvs i think.

EDIT: here that is i think

Chapter: 264 (DBZ 70), P5.5, P6.1
Context: Freeza and Zarbon discuss the strengths of the remaining Saiyans.
Freeza: “I’ve been thinking for awhile now…Somehow…I get the feeling that a formidable Saiyan is growing, and will become a challenge for me before too long…At first I thought it was Vegeta, but it seems I was wrong…”
Zarbon: “You’re probably getting worried over nothing…The only ones besides Vegeta are that person on ‘Earth’ or whatever that planet what called, and his kid…Their battle powers are supposed to be far lower than Vegeta’s…”

Some sense of vague precognition seems to be a thing within DB. If we're to take Kuririn's words as fact, Yamcha likely had a premonition that death lay in the battle with the Saibaimen, and Goku's calm actions before the Cell Game could be interpreted as those of a man who's realised his impending death and wants to make the most of his life while he can. I'd expect that having a heightened level of Ki control can make this a side effect.

Well, it was just a feeling. Freeza was obviously fearing the rising of a SSJ, so when you fear something to the point of exterminating an entire race in the spot, it makes sense some Saiyajin surviving and being out of his reach may propel in him this ominous feeling. It's also a trait in mangas that characters can have a sense of doom for things that may not in their favor happening. Piccolo also knew something was throwing him off when in the way to battle the androids.

It's funny tho that Freeza killed the Saiyajins because he feared the surging of a SSJ, yet let Vegeta live when this latter would be the one with the highest odds of becoming one.

Vegeta was someone very much under his surveillance, whereas the strength in numbers of Saiyan prodigies like him was as much of a factor in his decision. It's far easier to keep tabs on one prodigy than thousands of potential threats.

Well, he didn't seem too surprised at Vegeta rebeling. But maybe yeah, that wouldn't stop other Saiyajins from breeding and possibly producing another Saiyajin with the potential to become a threat.

It's just the more cautious side of Frieza being brought to the surface there. Despite his arrogance, he did still feel that the Saiyans have bottomless potential.
