Is it possible to make any sense of the implied Dabura-TeenGohan-KidGohan-Cell chain on the Boo Arc?

He underestimated the amount of energy it would take to kill Gohan. It happens frequently in this series. Think of King Piccolo thinking he could block Goku's ki-powered punch with his hands as an example.

King Piccolo broke almost all of his limbs, so that attack was his only shot at winning. He just had to try.

Dunno about that. There are pretty good points for him being a SSJ2 there too. And it makes the Dabura ~ Cell and later >>> Cell easy too.

He was drawn as a Super Saiyan, his hairstyle is identical to his SSjin hairstyle, and literally 4 chapters later Goku and Majin Vegeta are shown with SSjin2 electrical aura in their fight. There's no argument for him being a SSjin2 other than "Toriyama forgot the sparks", which is disproved by the fact that both Goku and Vegeta were shown with SSjin2 electrical aura literally four chapters after Gohan fights Dabura. Toriyama just intended for Gohan to be a SSjin. It's idiotic but it's what is shown.

Nothing proves Akira Toriyama checked the Daizenshuu books bit-for-bit. He could have checked just the power levels for all we know. Also, Toriyama wouldn't loathe other DB-related material, that would be bad for his reputation, wouldn't it?

Not to mention, the manga's information overrides the guidebooks's information.

Well, AT signed off of them using his name. Idk what more you need. He obv had to have read the books @ some point & if there was prob, he would have most likely said something to the writers. AT is not afraid to give points when it is due as example of his complaints of Super's animation, namely the infamous episode 5, especially when it is one of his beloved creations like DB. Lol

Fuck the Daiz. Toriyamas own illustrations show he is drawn as a SSJ, so that's what he is in my book.

Toriyama probably wouldn't remember anyway even if he saw the Daizenshuu article. If you showed AT a picture of Gohan at the Budokai and Gohan vs Dabra, he'd know one is SSJ2 because lightning, and the other is not because there's no lightning.

It is if you assume Dabra is only a bit above the Cell that Goku fought. The only thing that becomes inconsistent is Gohan not being able to use SSJ2 again, but you can even create a solid explanation for that.
