Is Oda, alongside J.R.R Tolkien, one of the best story tellers of all times?

We know how good J.R.R Tolkien is, but although I'm in the minority I'd say Oda is even more impressive than he's. Maybe by a good margin. The way he puts his story together can't be rivaled by anyone I've seen.

Do you agree? Would you place Oda as a best storyteller than big names we have such as J.R.R Tolkien and George Martin?

J.R.R. Tolkien definitely is amongst the best story tellers of all time. Oda, on the other hand? Not even close, especially after the timeskip. Oda has notable weak points when it comes to his character writing and, whilst his world has variety, the world building isn't as cohesive as most OP fans like to tout, not to mention his reliance on some of the more damaging Shonen tropes such as the overabundance of plot armour and "power of friendship" moments.
Only one of the major talking points about Oda's writing ability that holds weight is his foreshadowing, and even that isn't on the level of someone such as say, George R.R. Martin, especially after Oda admitted he'd change the ending of OP if the fans guessed it correctly.

One Piece covers themes such as religion, land-rights, violent vs peaceful political change, food waste, coups, slavery, racism, meaning of family, war, drug abuse and many more, while keeping them as part of one cohesive story. It also has morally grey characters in positions of political power, the marines and as pirates and both as protagonists and antagonists.
There's also a reason so many teenagers and adults (similar demographic as Lord of the Rings fans) have stuck with his work for so long - it's a very well-told story, full of powerful moments.

Is it perfect? No. A work doesn't have to be perfect to be a great story and an epic length work is unlikely to ever be perfect to every audience member.

This is highly inaccurate. There's no fights that rely on Power of Friendship in One Piece. This reads like someone who read or watched Fairy Tail and confused it for One Piece.

The character writing is very strong in One Piece. They're better written than anything Tolkien ever wrote. The World is a lot more interesting than anything in LotR, that's for sure. Tolkien can talk about tree branches while Oda displays originality that works perfectly in a cohesive world, unlike Tolkien.

Tolkien ruined the fantasy genre by inspiring Medieval Europe Fantasy clones. That's all some people think fantasy is and it's all his fault.
False statement, Tolkien made the fantasy genre as we know it. It wasn't as big, or even existed in a form we would dub as high fantasy before him.

Even the most derivative Tolkien clone is also light years better than One Piece too.

Yeah, okay, you're full of yourself. Tolkien didn't create the fantasy genre. He just formed "modern" fantasy, if you want ancient Fantasy stories read Journey to the West, which beats out Tolkien by leagues and bounds. Derivative Tolkien works, some authors who've made careers out of them, are such drivel that to compare it to something like One Piece - which is completely superior to anything Tolkien ever wrote on his best day - is laughable. Eiichiro Oda has already surpassed JRR Tolkien and One Piece is the greatest fantasy work of all-time.

He did. In fact its far more impressive than One Piece because Tolkien actually inspired an entire genre, while One Piece itself is a derivative work.

Yes. The modern fantasy genre is based off of Tolkien's work.

Wheel of Time is infinitely better than One Piece in everyway. One Piece itself is total trash.

Tolkien in no way created a genre that's existed since people made campfires and told tall tales that we now call mythology. Most of his story is borrowed from myths that he added his own misogynistic nonsense to in his own stories. lmao

One Piece is the greatest fantasy story of all-time. Worldbuilding, characters, plot, and story.

Do not be disingenuous, the modern fantasy genre as we know it was created by Tolkien. This is indisputable fact, it is even a running joke about how long Tolkien's shadow is cast on the whole medium. This is not even a bad thing because the fantasy genre as we know it was birthed from his stories and fantasy authors acknowledge it.

I have read One Piece, most of it. To be blunt it is a children's story, the characters are all simplistic and one note. The world while bright and colourful is only ever surface level (especially compared to even the most basic of high fantasy novels which all humiliate it), it's highly formulaic. One Piece isn't a trend setter, it's strength is that it draws from Early Dragon Ball and creates an enjoyable story. But Tolkien's work absolutely dwarfs it in terms of scale and scope.
