My number one reason for using subscription services is to avoid ads and pop-ups. Unfortunately it's impossible to find everything you want on one platform. Either settle for one, buy multiple or deal with ads. Sucks.

I think some other sites you can use adblocker, you couldn't on kissanime.

I'll miss how kissmanga was set up the most. All panels on one page and then you can read the whole chapter at once.

Adblock worked for me on kissanime almost always. Ublock origin specifically. Even the Brave adblock usually is fine. Without adblock it definitely wasn't the easiest site to use. I used it on ps4 and while it was easy to search on there are distracting ads, like 3 popups before the video plays and popups when you pause the video or try to replay parts.

There are quite a lot of manga sites that have all the manga pages on one webpage nowadays, like mangadex has that option.

Anyway, RIP. Kissanime changed how anime was consumed online. Before them it was harder to stream stuff because many sites didn't have multiple video sources and the streaming quality was only like 360p. Downloads were probably more common and in some ways that was better because you'd have to go to individual fansubbers and you'd appreciate that a team took the effort to translate it and understand there's a passionate anime community online, whereas kissanime fully commercialised it. But kissanime (and now other sites that followed in its footsteps) was good for making anime easily accessible to more people, including new fans who are put off by the idea of having to trawl through the internet to watch a series.

Any standard ad blocker should work just fine on 9anime, I use it all the time (used to use Adblock Plus and currently use uBlock Origin), I seem to remember occasionally getting a pop-up but it's rare. gogoanime is another alternative but not always reliable, some shitty subs on there sometimes. twist.moe is another, there's also animeheaven but I don't remember the correct domain. I would just google good alternatives though, people have been asking for alternatives to kiss for the past 2 years so there're a lot of easy to find sites out there that have taken what kissanime had done and have done it nearly as well if not better. Though a lot have also been taken down just like kiss has.

masterani was easily the best one a while back from what I recall but that went down a long time ago. Shame.

A shame, considering Kissanime had by far the most comprehensive list of titles and always aimed to have the best quality versions for them (eg. using the Dragon Box versions for its DBZ content) and had titles difficult to find on other sites (eg. Kinnikuman). Still, it being taken down was an inevitability with how prolific it was as a pirating source and the reason for it wasn't unwarranted. The files will still exist for many series that will simply require more digging. Perhaps the worst part is that, if interested in manga or comics, both of those sites under the same provider are gone too.

Plus, that wasn't even a good site with their virus ads and shit. Fuck it.

I personally never encountered any viruses from the ads, so I'd say the ads were more annoying than harmful (at least if sticking to the beta server for videos).

I've been using that site I mentioned earlier. I have adblock on and it runs better than kissanime, since there are no captchas, it automatically goes to and starts playing the next episode and judging from the lack of empty space around the player, I'd guess even with adblock there are less ads than kissanime (which isn't saying much, considering kissanime was one of the worst for ad frequency, plus the ads were the most disgusting, unless you're a fucking loser in their mom's basement with a collection of anime body pillows, in which case you probably loved that shit).
