:loser should be master overall, but Batman has more resources. If they’re trying to find out each other’s identities, L wins. Even Bane could figure that one out lol. If they’re running to see who gets Kira first, Batman would stumble a bit because he wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice anyone, but he’d have Light short of a few teeth and behind bars in no time.

Wasn't L the only one that suspected those deaths to be suspicious in the first place?

A few points about Batman for the uninitiated:

Batman is incredibly smart. He is cited to have an IQ of 192.

He is what is known as a Polymath, due to his mastery of many subjects, including: Physics, all forms of chemistry, especially biochemistry, nearly all forms of engineering, pretty much all sciences, mathematics, history, meta-humans, linguistics, psychology, martial arts, pyrotechnics, stealth, and explosives.

He possesses a photographic memory.

He earned degrees in Criminal Sciences, Forensics, Computer Science and Engineering by the time he turned 22 and is the second smartest human in the DC universe.

He speaks eight languages.

He once hacked a Kryptonian database, so his computer skills are impeccable.

His greatest feat of intelligence imo was depicted in the story "Tower of Babel" where it was shown Batman had a contingency plan to take out every member of the Justice League individually in case they turned evil. These plans were stolen and later used against them, proving their efficiency.

All he needs is a ray gun and Freeza to distract him :alex2
Damn, I was thinking he could engineer a virus or something. Forgot all about this. No doubt he's got some alien gun on that level or better from the Justice League. :troll

According to DB Minus/Jaco the Galactic Patrolman a virus that could wipe out the Earthling race would have no effect on a Saiyan boy. So most likely stuff that actually worked on Goku like Frost's poison needle or the Heart Virus were genetically engineered, $$$$ l33t stuff. Maybe the Yardratans were planning on using the heart virus on the Ginyus and slipped it into the mountain load of food Goku was eating there by accident :troll

Well, it seemed to be an Earth virus at least considering Trunks said ppl will have the cure many years later.

Given this Batman definitely sounds more capable than L, but I think it depends on the situation. I don't think anyone would have suspected foul play with the Kira killings

Hundreds of thousands of criminals all dropping dead with heart attacks doesn't sound unnatural?

It sounds more plausible than some supernatural entity causing their deaths when no such powers have ever been established in that universe.

L admitted he was only half-sure some kind of psychic powers that cause heart attacks could exist when Light killed his double on the TV screen.

That's still better than everyone else in that story since L is said (or at least implied) to be the best detective in the world.

It should be noted that Batman has experience with the supernatural and extraterrestrial, so him coming to the conclusion that the Kira killings were otherworldly isn't totally out of the question. Rather it would be a matter of how fast he could deduce this and his efficiency at pinpointing it.

The downside of Batman is that because of his extended history as a character, we have many more examples of other characters getting the best of him and/or deducing his identity.
