Why are most characters (at-least early-on) not competing with Luffy to become pirate-king/queen? I’m not sure whether they are even now. Do the Yonkos want to be?

It seems mostly early-on people laugh it off, saying it’s impossible (Crocodile) or don’t even mention it or have other ambitions, so what gives?

Yes. Big Mom was shown saying she wanted to be the pirate king/queen. Kaido also was. Kid also had the same dream as Luffy I'm pretty sure.

Also I think I remember some characters from Dressrosa wanting to be PK.
