Depends on who you ask. I don’t know.

Yes but it wasn't 1v1. Kaido fought a fuck ton of people and sustained damage. I don't think Luffy actually surpassed him, or at least surpassed his full power.

Along with what he said being a factor (Tbf tho, Luffy himself was pretty wounded as well), Oda still hasn’t made clear of where the top tiers scale to one another (aside from Kaido > Big Mom). Mihawk is a complete unknown aside from being just in the Yonko tier.

Luffy was wounded but his DF Awakening seemed to bring him back to full power whenever it was activated. Idk, he was losing to Kaido for most of the fight even with Gear 5, he somehow overpowered him with his final attack though.

Probably not. Shanks is being treated like the top dog right now. His Haki alone made Ryokugyu shit himself. Mihawk is probably still Yonko tier though.

Way back, I think I think, I used to think Shanks & Gol D. Roger & the like were just normal human level, because Shanks & his crew used stuff like guns or some-thing & Luffy defeated that sea-king until it was revealed way later that they are in-fact power-ful.

When reading the series for the first time yeah. The narrative hadn’t made clear the importance of power levels at that point. Also Shanks looked unremarkable in chapter 1.

I guess the counter is that Mihawk is well familiar with Shanks and obviously his Haki, and yet he doesn't fear him. We've still yet to see Mihawk go anywhere close to all out. The closest to was when he wanted to test Whitebeard at Marineford, which didn't even end up working. So I don't see reason to stray from the direction the narrative is pointing, which is that Shanks and Mihawk are rivals.

Most of the damage Kaido sustains prior to the one vs one with Luffy was from luffy though. Zoro's the only other one that really even damages him.

Law was also using his abilities to damage Kaido internally. Plus the overall stamina he used to fight the Samurai, Luffy/Zoro/Kid/Killer/Law, Yamato, and then Luffy again several times... it was pretty clear that Kaido wasn't fresh by the end of the fight.
